What are locator or bar attachment dentures?
Ventura locator or bar attachment dentures use fewer implant root replacements to hold your artificial teeth in place; while locator or bar attachment dentures use two to four implant replacement roots, traditional dental implants use eight or more implants. We recommend locator or bar attachment dentures to patients who are missing multiple teeth or want to replace a whole row of teeth. They’re a long-term, comfortable alternative to conventional removable dentures.
Preparing for Locator or Bar Attachment Dentures
We’ll conduct an exam and take x-rays to confirm that you’re a good candidate for Ventura locator or bar attachment dentures. Then, we’ll use a CT scan to produce a 3-D model of your jawbone. Using specialized software, we use the 3-D model to determine where we will place your implants. You’ll also have a series of appointments that allow us to custom fit the locator or bar attachment dentures to your mouth with your personalized esthetic goals.
The process for Locator or Bar Attachment Dentures
Before your surgery begins, we’ll administer sedative medication or general anesthesia. We’ll use the model we created during the preparatory stage to place the implant root replacements. You’ll have temporary replacement teeth until your mouth has fully healed before the denture can be attached to the implant root replacements; these temporary teeth are lighter and won’t impede the body’s healing process. It takes about six months for your mouth to heal. Once you’re healed, we attach your permanent replacement teeth to your implant root replacements.
